Masterpieces of Spanish light

Joaquín Sorolla , one of the most important Spanish painters of the 19th and early 20th centuries, is being honored with an extraordinary exhibition in Valencia. The exhibition "Sorolla: Masterpieces from the Sorolla Museum" is being held at the Fundación Bancaja and features 60 of his masterpieces , most of which come from the Sorolla Museum in Madrid—more specifically, from the artist's former home.

The exhibition runs from 3 October 2025 to 8 February 2026. Further information about the exhibition

Iconic works and artistic development

The exhibits include some of Sorolla's best-known paintings, including:

  • Paseo a la orilla del mar (walk by the sea)

  • El baño del caballo (The horse bath)

In addition, the exhibition offers a deep insight into Sorolla's artistic development - from his early years in Valencia and Italy to his mastery of portraiture and his incomparable depictions of the Mediterranean.

A special highlight is the work ¡Triste herencia! (Sad Heritage), with which Sorolla won the Grand Prix at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900.

A rare opportunity for art lovers

This exhibition is particularly important because the Sorolla Museum in Madrid is currently closed for renovations. Consequently, the painter's works are rarely shown in such a complete collection.

The collection in Valencia offers a unique opportunity to experience Sorolla's life's work in all its luminosity and depth – a celebration of light, color, and Mediterranean lightness.
