Why Coolcation is becoming increasingly popular
Persistent heat waves, severe weather disasters, and forest fires: In view of the disasters caused by climate change, more and more vacationers are traveling to cooler regions.
A recent survey by the travel platform Skyscanner makes it clear: Around 35 percent of German travelers will consciously avoid hot vacation spots in the future. Instead, countries like Finland and Ireland are increasingly coming into focus.
Searches for these destinations increased significantly in 2024, by 159 percent (Finland) and 164 percent (Ireland).
Travel planning is changing
Another survey finding: 73 percent of respondents stated that their travel plans will consciously include cooler destinations in the future. 27 percent of vacationers even specifically want to avoid countries with excessively high summer temperatures.
